Raise Your Bed
One of the smartest ways in which to add storage space to your digz without spending much (or anything at all) is to raise your bed. Once raised, there’ll be extra room underneath it to store a range of items.
Maximise this space even further by organising all of your things into large plastic Tupperware or boxes, according to category, and strategically stacking them so that you can see everything clearly.
One of the biggest mistakes that students make when it comes to storage is trying to store things horizontally. Your horizontal space is already limited, and if you use up what’s left of it, your digz are sure to become uncomfortably cluttered very quickly indeed. Go the vertical route instead by installing shelves that reach the ceiling and investing in a stepping stool so that you can reach what you need when you need it.
Be smart about this though – store all of the items that you use most regularly on the lower shelves, and the items that you don’t use very often right at the top.
It’s so easy to accumulate things that we don’t want or need – especially if those things have sentimental value. As tidying guru, Marie Kondo says, one should only ever keep an item if it is either functional or sparks joy for you in some way. If it does neither, or if you’re holding onto it for the future ‘just in case’ you might need it again one day, it’s time to toss it or donate it
The less stuff you have, the less of a worry limited storage space will be!
Ultimately, it’s all about getting creative and reducing the number of items within your Student digz accommodation that you need to store. If you’re strapped for cash, rope in a DIY-savvy friend to help or take on the job yourself after watching a few informative YouTube videos. Here’s to a tidier, more comfortable living space!
