surviving your 20sYour 20s are likely to be the best years of your life and, in many ways, some of the most challenging. They are a time when you are going to be trying lots of new things. You’ll be finding your feet and, of course, learning how to ‘adult’ like a boss. Here are five important lessons to help you come out of the other side unscathed. And ready to tackle yet another decade.

How to Say No

Consider yourself a people-pleaser who likes to keep the peace even if it hurts them? Now’s the time to put an end to it.

One of the most valuable life lessons that you will learn in your early adult years is how to say no. When you don’t want to do something, don’t! Always remember that it is impossible to make everyone happy. So, make it a priority to make yourself happy and practice self-love each and every day.

How to Look After Yourself

Yes, working hard is important. But not if it means putting your own needs, physical or mental health on the back-burner. Learn how to prioritise self-care, and you’ll reap the benefits in all aspects of your life. You can’t pour from an empty cup, after all.

How to Get Back Up

The sooner you stop reaching for the ideal of ‘being happy’, the better. Happiness lies in the little things, and it never lasts forever. Make peace with the fact that you’ll have good days and bad days, good luck and bad luck. Learn how to pick yourself up and carry on. How to ask for help when you need it. And to appreciate and savour those happy, fulfilling moments between the challenging ones.

How to Budget

What’s the biggest worry for people in their 20s? Money! This isn’t always because we don’t have enough of it. It’s often because we’re awful at managing it. Avoid the stress that comes with this by teaching yourself how to budget early on in life.

How to Say Sorry

Learn how to acknowledge when you’re wrong and how to say sorry when sorry is due. Realising and accepting that you aren’t always right. This will save you a lot of heartache and disappointment in the future. It will make it easier to build loving, mutually beneficial relationships with others too!
Other than that, enjoy the ride. Make mistakes. Learn from them. Love yourself. Grow.

You’ll only ever be this young once!
