Speed dating has been around for a few years, with the aim of saving everyone the time and effort involved in a full-on date. The concept is simple: get together a bunch of men and women, and set up a system where they have a few minutes to find out if they like each other, before moving onto the next “date”. It’s a bit like musical chairs with a romantic spin.
Here’s how to maximise your chances of finding that special someone at a speed dating event:
Make sure you look good
Choose clothes you feel good in and that make the best of your attributes. The better you feel, the more confident and sexy you’re going to come across to your “dates”. Whether you’re male or female, dress to impress – just aim for class rather than bling or skin.
Keep an open mind
Most people are at least a little nervous in this kind of scenario, so smile and be friendly to help put your “date” (and yourself) at ease. Give your full attention to each person, even if you decide fairly quickly that they aren’t for you. People can often surprise you if you give them a chance.
Ask good questions
Spending the entire time talking about yourself is likely to turn your date off rather than on. Rather take turns to ask interesting questions. Avoid questions with yes/no answers and instead try something like these:
- If you were having a dinner party and could invite anyone, dead or alive, who would you choose?
- If you were an animal, what animal would you be?
- What makes you happy?
- Where would you go on holiday, if you could choose anywhere in the world?
Identify who you’re speaking to
Double check you have the right person on your list (the organisers will provide this) and mark them off when you meet them, noting whether you like them or not. If both parties are interested, your details will be shared so you can organise a proper date yourselves.
Most of all, enjoy yourself! If you go into the process with an open mind and a determination to have fun, regardless of the outcome, you can’t lose.
If you’d like to give it a try, come along to the Studentdigz Speed Dating event on 12 September 2016. You never know who you might meet!
