University is all about new experiences – and what better way to try something new than by sampling a different cuisine like, say, classic Indian food? The question is, where do you go in Braamies when you want to get your hands on a great curry or creamy butter chicken? The Student Digz team has already done the research for you…
The Indian Bay Leaf Restaurant
This firm favourite hot spot (and yes, we have referred to it as a ‘HOT’ spot for a reason!) can be found at 57 Mint Road in Braamfontein and is best known for its extensive menu and its awesome budget-friendly prices (click here for more tips on sticking to your budget).
It’s no wonder students flock to the Indian Bay Leaf from far and wide to get a bite to eat throughout the week! The other news is that they serve more than just traditional Indian cuisine – you can enjoy some Chinese and Pakistani delights too.
R Jana’s can be found right in the heart of Braamies at 87 De Korte Street. It’s the perfect place for those in search of traditional Durban Indian culinary creations. From curried sandwiches to bunny chows and breyanis, your taste buds are in for a real treat!
The prices are also impressive – you can get yourself a curried rotti roll with carrot salad for just 25 bucks!
You’ll find Dosa Hut at 48 Central Road in Fordsburg, just a stone’s throw away from Braamfontein. Known for their dosas (duh!), this is the restaurant to visit if you’re in the mood for something a little more adventurous than a classic curry.
While the prices might be a little bit more on the expensive side, you can rest assured that the quality always makes up for it! If you’re planning a visit, be sure to try their trademark mint lemon juice if you’re craving something refreshing with your meal.
