Travel is the very best gift that you can give yourself. Yes, there’s no denying that it can be pricey. But you’d be surprised to learn how much easier it is to travel debt-free these days, even as a student operating on a tight budget. Along with joining a Stokvel or simply putting a small amount away in a savings account or fixed deposit each month, you may also want to consider the possibility of a working holiday.

Whichever way you manage to do it, here are a few reasons why London should be your chosen destination…

It’s chockfull of historical sites and landmarks

Whether you’re a fan of old-school architecture or you love exploring museums, you cannot go wrong in London. Buckingham Palace, Natural History Museum, Tower of London, Big Ben… the list goes on and on.

Getting around is cheap and easy

The UK has one of the most efficient public transport systems in the world. Not only are there plenty of options to choose from (the underground, train, tram, bus, taxi…), but most are light on the pocket, too. Plus, you’re in luck even if you’d prefer to get around on foot. You’ll save money and get lots of great exercise – but the even better news is, many of the top attractions are quite close together, making it convenient to trek from one to the next.

There are plenty of hidden gems to explore

We all know the main tourist attractions in London, but they’re certainly not all that this bustling city has to offer. There is a wide array of gorgeous hidden gems to explore, all of which are totes Insta-worthy! Camden Market, quaint little coffee shops, colourful houses along the lengthy Portobello Road. You’ve just got to know where to look!

There’s no language barrier

Everyone speaks English in England (duh), so no need to lug your translation dictionary around with you everywhere you go.

So, get your smartphone camera at the ready, pack those bags and go on a holiday that you won’t be quick to forget. London is calling!
