What better way to celebrate the joys of spring than by stepping out of your student digz to get your creative fix and visual inspiration at Joburg Art Week.
The focus of the event is on promoting the local art scene, so it’s the perfect place to scope out proudly South African talent and celebrate what it means to be African.
Art Week kicks off on Saturday the 1st of September and will continue until Sunday the 9th of September. Art lovers can look forward to at least 50 events of all sorts from exhibitions and walkabouts to public talks and panel discussions. A diverse selection of notable public performances and a variety of impressive artist’s open studios are also in the line-up.
Joburg Art Week will be hosted at various venues and galleries across Jozi. Keep an eye out on the event page on Facebook for details closer to the time:
What to Expect?
Joburg Art Week aims to increase awareness about and celebrate beautiful, original contemporary art.
What makes Art Week so popular is the fact that most of the events take place in previously disadvantaged, surrounding areas. This initiative strives to develop more points of contact between community arts organisations, informal enterprises, and the mainstream visual arts industry. Ultimately, you can expect to enjoy a comprehensive selection of gorgeous local art that is sure to inspire you, whether you’re an artist yourself or not.
It’s a fun day out that also comes with the opportunity to learn about, develop and support the art industry. There will also be a chance to meet some of the local art scene’s biggest names, along with a range of inspirational up and coming artists. You don’t want to miss it!
