This 4-piece band from Potch have been making waves in Jozi, and all over the country for that matter, for almost five years now and dedicated fans have been greatly anticipating their next move. Well, the anticipation is over! The boys have officially dropped their new album… and the Student Digz team just can’t get enough of it!
After releasing their new single ‘Broken’ earlier this year, everyone was amped to see what the rest of the new album would bring – and we’re definitely not disappointed with the results.
The album’s edgy sound is a refreshing change, with some incredible pop beats and a few amazing hooks. It’s bound to get you bouncing along to the beat.
Asked about what fans can expect from the new album, the band had this to say:
“Broken was a fun fresh song to kick off the new album, but don’t pigeonhole us with it. We’ve explored a few new styles and influences. The new album is more edgy, and we have moved away from a wall of sound and focused on giving each instrument and sound its space. But, we have tried to keep the hooks and melodies there. It’s still pop, but pop has moved on since Negatives and we’ve tried to keep up with what’s cutting edge now.”
Written and produced by band members Ewald Janse van Rensburg and Eugene Coetzer, they took their inspiration for the album from all the various forms of human emotions that stem from the conflicts of interest in love, passion, pain and so forth.
Never heard of Monark but keen to give their sound a try?
The good news is that the band regularly performs at popular Jozi venues. Just this year, they have rocked it on stage at Hard Rock Café and Rockwood Theatre, much to the delight of many adoring fans.
If you want to catch the boys live and doing what they do best, they’ll be performing at the Barnyard Rivonia on Friday, the 28th of July for the Joburg leg of their CD launch tour. They are also scheduled to perform at the International Beer Day Music Festival on August 5th. If you don’t have your tickets yet, hurry! They won’t be available for much longer…
Most importantly, once you get your hands on the new album… tell us what you think!
