Blogging can be a great way in which to relax, to engage with people who are interested in the same things you are, and to start working on your creativity. However, while there are indeed countless pros to encourage you, there are also a few cons to keep in mind before taking the plunge and starting this exciting digital journey. We take a look at a few of them below.
Pros
It’s easy
Starting a blog is super easy. In fact, it only takes a few minutes before you can start working on your first post. Blogger is the most popular platform thanks to its user-friendly interface and wide variety of unique templates.
You have a lot of freedom
Your blog is exactly that – yours! So if you want to write about your daily varsity experiences to try and organise your thoughts, or focus on your favourite soccer team and their latest wins… it’s totally your prerogative.
You can gain (relatively) unbiased insight
Whether you want to ask for opinions about a certain topic, or whether you want to post images of your personal artwork, your blog will make it easy for you to gain some insight into what other people think and how they feel.
Cons
You Won’t Have Much of a Following to Start with
Starting a blog means starting from scratch, so it will be up to you to do the legwork when it comes to building up a following. Get the ball rolling by using your social media profiles to promote your posts and asking your varsity mates and your digz buddies to spread the word!
Negativity is Unavoidable
Just like anywhere else in the world, the internet can also sometimes be a cruel and negative place. You are likely to experience criticism and, unfortunately, you might even fall victim to relentless cyber bullying too. The key here is how you handle it. Don’t be afraid to stand up for yourself. More importantly, don’t allow these comments to affect your life to the extent where you’re still worrying about them even after you’ve turned off your laptop and gone to bed.
Ultimately, the only way in which to find out if blogging is really for you is to give it a try. Do you already have a blog of your very own? Share it with us in the comments, and don’t forget to leave some helpful tips for other aspiring bloggers out there!
