Keen to look and feel your very best this year? Then it’s time to brush up on some of the biggest beauty trends expected to dominate throughout 2020 and beyond. Here are the top six to look forward to.
It’s all in the eyes
It would seem as though beautiful brows were the most important facial feature to perfect over the last few years. However, that is set to change. In 2020, the spotlight will be on the eyes. Think glittery shadows, pretty pastels, and electric neon eyeliner.
Forget about creating a natural honey glow. Your main goal should be to emulate a glass-like complexion instead. Luckily, it doesn’t need to take you two hours to get right. You can embrace the look by applying an illuminating primer before applying your regular foundation. Then further amp up the glassy sheen with a creamy, natural highlight to finish.
Eyeshadow meets blush (literally) in the new blush draping trend inspired by the bold makeup fads of the 80s. Yes, you literally place your blush high up on your cheekbones and diffuse it into your eyelids. The end result is a subtle, pretty draped effect.
Gloss is back
Matte has been the dominant lipstick trend for a very long time now. However, as of January 2020, gloss is making a big comeback. Shine, girl, shine!
Blue is the makeup colour of the year according to various makeup artists from around the globe. This is unsurprising considering that Classic Blue has recently been announced as the 2020 Pantone colour of the year. The great news is that the hue is totally versatile. Find it in eyeshadow form, lipstick, mascara, eyeliner – it just depends on how daring you want to be.
We couldn’t create a list of the leading makeup trends without mentioning what’s happening regarding eyebrows this year. Put your tweezers away for now. The focus is on feathered, fluffy, natural brows. No more drawing them on, ladies.
“I create feathered brows by using soap, which is an old-school Hollywood trick,” says celebrity makeup artist, Keita Moore. “I like to pair a precise angled brush with a brow pomade and make hair-like strokes through the brow, which really gives the brow a fuller, more precise look. Then I take bar soap and rub it through the brows with a mascara wand for a feathered effect.”
