If you grew up in the suburbs or outside of Johannesburg, living downtown is going to be an awesome new experience for you. The buzz, the city lights, and a crowd of diverse and interesting people make living in the city a great experience – here are some of the things you can expect when you first come to town.
The Downtown Buzz
The energy and non-stop rush of Jozi has made the city famous, and you’ll experience that energy all the time downtown. Cars and people seem to rush by in downtown Johannesburg, with something going on all the time – this awesome energy will totally inspire you in your new life as a student!
The city has loads to offer, whether you’re into nightlife, arts and theatre, or just chilling with new friends. You’ll get to explore new places, and meet people from all over the world in the heart of Johannesburg, while studying at one of the great universities in the area.
Getting Used to Downtown Life
- When you first arrive in downtown Johannesburg, don’t let the rush get to you. After you’ve settled in at your digz, you will have the chance to explore your new neighbourhood.
- If you grew up in the suburbs, the downtown vibe may seem hectic at first – but don’t stress! After a few days you’ll be feeling that vibe, and it won’t be long before you wake up in the heart of Johannesburg ready to do some serious learning and serious chilling in your off time.
- One thing you’ll notice living in the city is how diverse it is – the mix of peeps you see around may be different than what you’re used to. But with a little friendliness you’ll mix easily with the other students in your digz. Remember, people are people – once you open up to someone you’ll make a new friend, no matter where you are from.
