Ever notice how the old leaves need to fall from the trees to make space for fresh new buds in spring? Human beings are the same and traditionally, as we (and the rest of nature) come out of hibernation, it’s a great time to do some spring-cleaning to make space for that new energy.
Of course you can do your spring-cleaning on just the physical level. If you’re feeling adventurous though, you may want to take it up a notch or two:
You know those clothes you haven’t worn for years and those gadgets that seemed like a great idea at the time? Go through your cupboards to weed them out, then sell them, give them away or organise a grand clothes swap event with your friends. You’ll all come away with ‘new’ clothes without having spent a cent. If your cupboards are looking a bit bare by the time you’re done, never fear – you’ll soon fill the space. In the meantime, take the opportunity to give them a good scrub.
You know that ‘mistake’ you made a while ago and for which you’ve been beating yourself up ever since? Or that grudge you’ve been holding against someone for something (you thought) they did? Well, now’s the time to forgive yourself and others, because holding on to that old negative energy prevents you from being the best you can be right now. If there’s a lesson to be learned, figure out what it is so the experience isn’t wasted, then forgive whomever you need to and move on.
You know that voice in your head that sounds like your mother/father/teacher? The good and bad news is that it’s actually you. Pay attention to what you’re thinking and how you speak to yourself, and you may notice that some of it is no longer true (and perhaps even never was). It’s time to let those old beliefs go. Decide what you’d really like to think about yourself and every time that old thought pops up, imagine it’s written on a whiteboard and you’re wiping it away, then write the new one instead.
